Mental Math Shortcuts
A calculator is fastest when you know what you're calculating. A few mental math tricks make everyday calculations faster: to find 10% of any number, just move the decimal one place left. To find 5%, halve the 10% result. For 15%, add 10% and 5% together.
For multiplication with round numbers, break them apart. 25 x 44 is easier as 25 x 4 x 11 = 100 x 11 = 1,100. For percentage tips, remember that 20% tip on any bill is simply the bill's first two digits doubled (within a dollar).
