Enter X and Z coordinates to see where your Nether portal should go
The 1:8 Rule Explained
Every block you travel in the Nether equals 8 blocks in the Overworld.
To link portals: take your Overworld X and Z, divide both by 8, and that's exactly where your Nether portal needs to be.
Y coordinate stays the same - it does not scale.
Keep your Nether portal above Y=4 (lava level) and below Y=100 (roof access zone).
1:8 Scale Converter
Instantly converts Overworld ↔ Nether coordinates using Minecraft's built-in 8x travel multiplier.
Travel Savings
Enter two Overworld locations to see exactly how many blocks you save by routing through the Nether.
Java & Bedrock
Works for both editions with edition-specific notes on portal linking rules and Nether roof behavior.
How to Use the Nether for Fast Travel
The Nether is not just a dangerous dimension - it is the most efficient travel system in Minecraft. Every block you walk in the Nether moves your Overworld position by 8 blocks. If your base and your friend's base are 3,200 blocks apart, you only need to walk 400 blocks through the Nether to get there.
