By normalizing price against size, you can compare a 1,200 sq ft condo to a 3,000 sq ft house in the same neighborhood on an equal basis. The fundamental formula is simple: divide the total price by the area. For home sales, use the total sale price and living area in square feet. For rentals, divide monthly rent by total area to get monthly cost per sq ft, which is useful for comparing apartments of different sizes. For commercial leases, the industry convention quotes annual rent per sq ft.
Why Smaller Homes Have Higher Price Per Sq Ft
